Demands of the Ash

Demands of the Ash — the principle

The Ash Demandssince 1.7.1

In every run the ash sets you tasks. They are deeds, not counting jobs. Every demand you meet writes entries into the Ash Book, and that stays forever.

What it is about

This page shows what the ash demands of you in this run: three to five demands that fit your progress. They are deeds (beat a boss under a level, without a potion, in time; craft something specific; bring an expedition home …). Every demand you meet writes entries into a branch of the Ash Book, and the ledger stays forever. With “Other goal” you swap a demand once per slot and run. Demands only count while you play yourself, not at night and not offline; nothing expires. Six times per run the ash stands at a crossroads: two gifts, you take one, the other burns away; you may swap one choice once per run, and all gifts burn out at the Ashfall.

The five slots

How many slots a run has depends on the Ashfall: three at first, then four, five from Ashfall 6. Every slot is drawn as soon as it opens; reloading and switching tabs roll nothing anew.

At which total level does what open?

The gate grows with every Ashfall. The game itself works out the levels below (slots open at 35%, 70% and 85% of the gate, crossroads at 35 / 50 / 70 / 82 / 92 / 100%).

Rules

  • Demands exist from total level 30 on (after the tutorial).
  • Swap: a demand that does not suit you can be swapped 1× per slot and run, free (“Other goal”); the old one goes back into the pool.
  • A demand you meet writes 1 entry into the Ash Book, Gamble and Peak 2. If every slot is met at the end, 1 more go into the weakest branch.
  • Branches that have reached their cap are no longer drawn.
  • Demands of the last 3 runs are drawn less often (weight 0.25).
  • Every demand drawn can be met with your progress; nothing expires, nothing is taken away.

The demands in detail

17 templates. The example texts are the game's real sentences with placeholder goals; which goal you get depends on run, Ashfall and progress.
